Love and Romance.

A friend asked me a question today. Basically it went like this, "Do you think two people can stay in love for a long time". At the time, I thought to my self, no. I has always been fixed with this answer. It just didn't seem possible for two people to be together for long periods of time, yet alone their entire lifetime. But being the lonely bastard that I am, I began thinking about it. And here's something interesting I came up with.

I believe that married people can find even more profound joys, be it with the birth of their children or the depth of the relationship itself that can evolve into something that they can't possibly live without. Yet, its still something that doesn't quite resemble love. At least not the romance of love. This is my conclusion after long deliberation. The love you have for a person, comes from your heart, so it can never die. However, its the romance in the relationships that cannot last. The flowers, the candy and the cute names. I'm not saying its impossible, its just improbable.

The promise of love can be everything. That being said, I believe that love, even if its for a day, means something. Romance is at this point, irrelavant. I guess Im just too much of a romantic. One of my lady friends once told me, " Jay, no girl or woman could ever possibly live up the promise of tomorrow that love holds for you. You're too picky". Thats the problem isn't it. People who are desperate for boyfriends and girlfriends always embrace the promise of tomorrow. There are too few people who actually celebrate the joy of "now".

Every morning, I wake and think to myself, will this be the day? Everynight i put my head on my soft pillow, I wonder to myself, will I meet her tomorrow? I imagine what she'll look like, her smile, her hair, and the way she laughs. Like I said, the promise of love can be everything. So, I guess that love is eternal but romance is today. Its not impossible, just improbable. But then again, who knows?

America, the land of the free and the home of the brave...

When the weapons of mass destruction thing turned out to be not true, I expected the American people to rise up. Ha! They didn't.

Then, when the Abu Ghraib torture thing surfaced and it was revealed that their government participated in rendition, a ceertain practice where they kidnap people and turn them over to regimes who specialize in torture, I was sure then the American people would be heard from. But no. They stood mute.

Then came the news that they jailed at least thousands of so-called terrorists suspects, locked them up without the right to a trial or even the right to confront their accusers. Certainly, I thought that they would never stand for that. Unfortunately they did.

And now, it's been discovered the executive branch of their government has been conducting massive, illegal, domestic surveillance on its own citizens, the Americans And I at least consoled myself that finally, finally the American people will have had enough. Evidentially, they haven't.

In fact, if the people of that country have spoken, the message is, "We're okay with it all." Torture, warrantless search and seizure, illegal wiretappings, prison without a fair trial - or any trial, war on false pretenses. They, as a citizenry, are apparently not offended.

There are no demonstrations on college campuses. In fact, there's no clear indication that young people even seem to notice what is going on.

The Secret Service can now declare free speech zones to contain, control and, in effect, criminalize protest.

Stop for a second and try to fathom and think about that.

At a presidential rally, parade or appearance, if you have on a supportive t-shirt, you can be there. If you are wearing or carrying something in protest, you can be removed.

This, in the United States of America. This in the United States of America!!!! Am I the only one embarrassed?

And what I'm most sick and tired of is how every time somebody disagrees with how the government is running things, he or she is labeled unPatriotic. In this case, unAmerican.

I object to government abusing its power to squash the constitutional freedoms of its citizenry. And, God forbid, anybody challenge it. They're smeared as being a heretic.

I read a book last night before going to sleep because I was just to bored. The book contained a speech by Adlai Stevenson, the inspirational America politician. The year was 1952 when he made the speech. He said, "The tragedy of our day is the climate of fear in which we live and fear breeds repression. Too often, sinister threats to the Bill of Rights, to freedom of the mind are concealed under the patriotic cloak of anti-Communism."

Funny how a speech made 50 years ago still applies today. Now, instead of anti-communism, it's the cloak of anti-terrorism. Stevenson also remarked, "It's far easier to fight for principles than to live up to them."

I know we are all afraid. In this time of jihads and of course unbelievable oppression. If the strong countries are deemed feeble towards small cracks, where to we, Malaysians, stand? Think about it.

The first post is the hardest...

Its always the first step in anything which turns out to be the hardest... But once you get started, things just seem to fall in place. Well then, here it is, my first post. Welcome friends, old and new.

I was in Church today, and during the priest's homily (the part after the gospel where the priest gives his reflections) he made a referrance to the new movie, 2012, and he said that the world is in some way coming to an end. But when it does, we are all safe because our sins have been attoned for. He also mentioned that the evil forces of the world would put up a great fight before it decides to give up. This was apparently symbolised through the movie's depiction of the world literally falling apart. But according to him, no matter what happens, good will always triumph over evil.

Now this happends every week, the priest will preach to us about hope tirelessly. I guess I'm amazed at this human's capability to truly believe what he says. He believe's that the world was just started from two human beings. He believes that when he day comes, we will be judged by the Lord. THIS is what we call faith. Not seeing yet believing. This is a quality that is almost non-existent in humans nowadays. The sincerity of this quality surpasses that of any humans capabilities. In this day and time, our priorities are placed based on cold hard facts, not faith in others. How sad.

The community is being destroyed by people or groups of people that I believe are driven by two vert desruptive powers; Power and greed. In terms of power, humans are blinded by the notion that power triumphs over other things. A man once told me, "Absolute power corrupts people". In the case of greed, the need for material possesions is considered the pivital factor in the so called darkness of the human's heart...

Enough about this dark nonsense....

On a lighter note, I'll be going back to INTI in a few days. I dnt really have anything to do there. But I guess I need to go there and get my things and prepare for the MPW presentation. By the way, I believe that people take our campus for granted. I've seen other high classed campusses. And i believe that this campus in the small town of Nilai can rival most of them. Not every great lawyer graduated from Harvard.
